Programs
Through the dedicated efforts of our volunteers, Moore County Literacy
Council (MCLC) offers the following programs:
Adult Basic Education (ABE)
-
One-on-one tutoring in basic reading,
writing and math for adults with low skill levels.
English as a Second Language
(ESL)
- Individual tutoring and small group conversation opportunities
for non-English-speaking adults who want to learn to speak, read,
and write English.
Computer Learning - All students work with computer programs for six hours prior to receiving a tutor. Available programs include interactive software for learning English, phonics and basic life skills.
Togetheread
- Certified "Motheread" instructors teach groups of parents how
to read to children in a way that encourages early literacy
skills.
Off-site tutoring - We currently place tutors at two nearby correctional facilities, at Bethesda Link, Sandhills Community College, at our Seven Lakes site, and in Robbins.
